Artist Statement
The song entitled "What Have You Done Today to Make You Proud?" by Heather Small is probably my most favorite song and is what I try to live by. I play it a lot as I am working in my studio. Even though I liked art in school and it probably was the only class that I ever received an "A" in; I am fairly new at being an artist as an adult. I found myself buying more and more stained glass pieces of art and I knew this was the medium in which I wantd to work. I had finally found my "nich"! Seven years ago I started learning how to do stained glass by taking only a few lessons from a friend. My intentions were to create pieces for myself and for gifts.
My art has really evolved in the seven years. Shortly after I had gotten started I asked myself how I wanted my art to stand out and be different from others. Because I hadn't seen it at the time I decided to incorporate other objects into my designs. I started off by using old costume jewelry. I also incorporate unique antique dishes or just broken pieces of dishes. I encourage my custom order customers to use their own family heirlooms in the design. We all have old jewelry, dishes, pictures, etc. that can be recyled and made into new pieces of art instead of being tucked away in some drawer or cabinet. I have since learned how to create fused glass pieces and so I incorporate those pieces into my designs as well. All of these techniques make my pieces one-of-a-kind!
In my collection are unique nite lites, garden markers, jewelry boxes, pendents, and wall hangings of many different sizes. A lot of my pieces are very functional, but yet unique. When I am in need of a hostess gift; I will take a nice bottle of wine with one of my pendents tied around the bottle. It can be left to be used as a decoration for a wine bottle or it can be worn as a pendent. If you're looking for inexpensive gifts for the person who has everything; my nite lites and garden markers are perfect gifts.
